Hi, everybody,![]() A new album is born, and it’s called Nocturno. Nocturno means « nightly », and indeed we’ve imagined this album as a journey through the night, with its moments of silence, of dreaming, of dreading, of feasting. I’ve writen most of the songs, but the album itself is the result of a team work, a dream-team for me, musicians I’ve been working or longing to work with for years. It is produced by Erik West Millette , whom I’ve had by my side on stage and in studio for 8 years now, and his commitment to this production went much further than what’s usual anywhere. He was the first to listen to the songs , sometimes over a long-distance phone call, and each new curve of this nightly road brought him ideas, intuition, and lit up his creativity. From the beginning he wanted Charles Papasoff in, to write the woods and brass scores, and share his vision of the shades of a full moon or moonless night. What they did together was beautiful and unexpected, and not often heard of in popular music. But also enhanced by the craft of Stacy Le Gallee , his experience and wonderful gear in Le Gallee Studio, where I felt for the first time in my life that my singing could sound just right. All the musicians that shared that deep night with us were from Montreal, QC, some of them partly adopted, like myself, and rich with their experience and roots. But they all gave us their best, silky, powerful, starry nightly colours. As did my two very special guests, Lhasa de Sela (on Los Hermanos) and Thomas Hellman (on Personne). So I thank them all for making this happen, my 5th album in 11 years, and I very sincerily aknowledge my record company, Audiogram , for trusting and supporting us completely along the way. |
